Trump orders turn grievances into policy

President Donald Trump has long been open about his disdain for wind energy, paper straws and energy-efficient showerheads he says make it tough to wash his hair.

As president, he’s turned that scorn into executive orders.

Trump’s digs against certain types of energy, conservation methods and some of his political opponents are laid bare in the flurry of more than 230 executive orders issued by the president so far — more than he signed during his first full term in office.

Those orders — whose targets include renewable energy subsidies, low-flow showerheads and straws — are part of a broader trend in which the president transforms longstanding complaints into administration policies. Trump’s allies say they’re in line with the president’s broader “energy dominance” agenda, but the administration’s critics view the orders as part of a concerning style of governing.
