President Donald Trump on Thursday announced a trade deal between the United States and the United Kingdom that he said will lower tariffs on a limited number of cars coming into the U.S., while boosting export opportunities for U.S. ethanol, aluminum and steel.
Speaking from the Oval Office with Prime Minister Keir Starmer of Britain on speakerphone, Trump said the final details would be hammered out in coming weeks.
“We think just about everything has been approved,” said Trump. “So good for both countries.”
The deal, said Trump, will provide new market access in the U.K. for American agriculture, chemicals, machinery and other industrial products. He also said it’s one of many his administration is working on, noting that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is traveling to Switzerland this weekend to meet with Chinese officials.
