Jared Isaacman is widely seen as a close ally of Elon Musk, whose SpaceX company is a big player in rocket launches and space exploration.

President Donald Trump relaunched an important nomination Tuesday that previously self-destructed, with his surprise announcement that’s he again picked tech entrepreneur Jared Isaacman to serve as NASA administrator.

A civilian pilot with two private space flights under his belt but no prior military or NASA service, Isaacman’s previous nomination for the top NASA job was withdrawn abruptly in late May after he had already won the support of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee.

But in his Truth Social post Tuesday night, Trump called Isaacman an “an accomplished business leader, philanthropist, pilot and astronaut” and said he was well-suited for the position.

“Jared’s passion for Space, astronaut experience, and dedication to pushing the boundaries of exploration, unlocking the mysteries of the universe, and advancing the new Space economy, make him ideally suited to lead NASA into a bold new Era,” Trump stated.
