Federal employees got little holiday cheer from President Donald Trump, who gave most civil servants a smaller pay raise than previous years.
Trump signed an executive order Thursday adjusting federal workforce pay rates for next year. Under the plan, base pay will rise by 1 percent and will not include a locality pay increase in 2026.
That jump in salary matches the alternative pay plan Trump submitted to Congress in August. It is also lower than the 2 percent pay raise government workers earned in 2025, which was authorized by former President Joe Biden before leaving office.
The new increase will be effective the first day of the first pay period starting on or after Jan. 1, 2026.
