A former Navy official working in EPA’s national security office was recently transferred to head the agency’s solid waste office.

President Donald Trump directed Thomas “Tom” Croci to serve as acting assistant administrator for the Office of Land and Emergency Management, EPA spokesperson Brigit Hirsch said. Croci’s appointment comes three weeks after the office’s Senate-confirmed leader, John Busterud, announced he would be stepping down from the role to focus on his health.

“Tom brings a wealth of military and legislative experience to this new role and will advance our efforts to provide clean air, land, and water for every American on some of the agency’s most impactful programs like Superfund, Brownfields, RCRA [Resource Conservation and Recovery Act], and emergency response,” Hirsch said.
