President Donald Trump has tapped Kyle Haustveit, a former petroleum engineer, to serve as undersecretary of energy and replace a former official who was sidelined last year.

Haustveit’s nomination was sent to the Senate on Wednesday and is now before the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.

If confirmed, he would replace Wells Griffith, a veteran of Trump’s first administration, who was pushed out of the role last year after POLITICO reportedthat DOE leaders and the White House were in conflict over billions of dollars of clean energy grant cuts, some affecting Republican districts.
