President Donald Trump has tapped Michael Rigas, currently at the State Department, to serve as the acting director of the General Services Administration, according to an email reviewed by POLITICO’s E&E News.
Rigas in the email to staff said Trump directed him to take on the responsibilities of acting director at the agency. “This will be my third time serving as GSA and it is an honor to work alongside you once again,” Rigas wrote.
Rigas said he plans to focus on the agency’s role as a steward of federal tax dollars. “This means helping other agencies be as effective and efficient as possible in their acquisition of goods and services, their use of technology and their use and disposal of real property,” he wrote.
GSA, an independent agency that manages federal property and provides acquisition and procurement services for government agencies, emerged as a hub of activity for Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency. Top DOGE staffers have since moved out of GSA headquarters in Washington as the Musk-Trump rupture unfolded, with makeshift bedrooms and areas for DOGE workers being disassembled.
