President Donald Trump on Thursday announced a pair of trade actions with potentially significant consequences for North American trade, threatening a 50 percent tariff on Canadian aircraft while declaring a national emergency over Cuba.

In a post to his social media platform, the president accused Canada of “wrongfully” refusing to certify several Gulfstream business jets, arguing that the move effectively blocks U.S.-made aircraft from the Canadian market.

“If, for any reason, this situation is not immediately corrected, I am going to charge Canada a 50% Tariff on any and all Aircraft sold into the United States of America,” he wrote in the post.

Separately, Trump signed an executive order declaring a national emergency over Cuba, and establishing a framework to impose additional tariffs on countries that sell or otherwise provide oil to Havana.
