LONDON — The U.K. government is expected to publish a long-awaited plan to decarbonize new homes next week, with ministers set to mandate low-carbon heating for all new-builds and solar panels on the vast majority.
According to two energy sector figures briefed on the plan, the government will publish the Future Homes Standard next week. Both were granted anonymity to discuss behind-closed-doors briefings from government.
One of the energy sector figures said the plan was expected Tuesday.
The strategy — which has been subject to years of consultation — will likely be presented as an essential step to reduce U.K. reliance on fossil fuels and to cut energy bills in the context of the Iran war and the resulting surge in oil and gas prices, they added.
