As Congress continued this week to grapple with President Donald Trump’s intervention in Venezuela, some Democrats have linked their criticism to ongoing angst about the administration’s attacks on clean energy.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) made the point explicit on Thursday, slamming the administration for simultaneously pursuing foreign oil and trying to cancel domestic wind projects.

“He’s put our men and women in uniform at risk just to try to snatch more of Venezuela’s oil and to help his billionaire buddies. And he’s not made investments in clean energy,” Van Hollen said on a call led by left-leaning advocacy group Climate Power.
