New laws in Virginia aim to boost virtual power plants, electric vehicle chargers, new transmission lines and nuclear energy.
Democratic Gov. Abigail Spanberger on Tuesday signed six energy-related bills — as well as more than a half-dozen other pieces of health care and housing legislation — that passed the Legislature this year either unanimously or with broad bipartisan support.
Spanberger said the new laws are part of the state’s response to the “real, pressing concerns I have heard from Virginia families across the Commonwealth about high costs — particularly at the pharmacy counter, in the housing market, and on their utility bills.
“No Virginian should ever have to choose between seeing their doctor, paying their rent or mortgage, or keeping their lights on,” Spanberger said in a statement. “I’m grateful to the lawmakers who made addressing rising costs a priority during this legislative session.”
