Grand Canyon National Park will halt overnight lodging for an undisclosed period of time and implement water restrictions and other campground limits on the South Rim starting Saturday, the National Park Service announced this week.

The restrictions come as a result of multiple breaks along the 12.5-mile-long Transcanyon Waterline, which supplies portable water to the South Rim and inner canyon. The park has been dealing with water shortages since mid-November, and currently no water is being pumped into the South Rim while crews work to repair the line.

While the park remains open to visitors, all overnight lodging, including hotels operated by Xanterra such as El Tovar, Bright Angel Lodge and Maswik Lodge, as well as Delaware North’s Yavapai Lodge and Trailer Village, will close beginning Saturday. Hotels outside the park in the Tusayan area will not be affected.
