President Donald Trump is eyeing White House adviser David LaCerte as his nominee to fill the open seat on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, four people familiar with the plan told POLITICO.
LaCerte currently works as the principal White House liaison and senior adviser to the Office of Personnel Management’s director. He is listed as a contributor to Project 2025, the conservative blueprint developed by Russ Vought, the head of the Office of Management and Budget, to reorient and substantially shrink the federal government.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Although LaCerte previously participated in litigation on some energy issues as special counsel for Baker Botts and has served in senior roles at the U.S. Chemical Safety Board, he lacks an energy background, according to one of the people, who formerly worked at FERC and like the others was granted anonymity to discuss sensitive information.
