White House yanks National Park Service director nominee

The Trump administration on Monday withdrew its nominee to lead the National Park Service.

Scott Socha, who has no experience in government, has worked for nearly three decades for Delaware North, a hospitality firm.

The Buffalo, New York-based company has held contracts with national parks to run lodges, hotels, tours and concessions. These currently include the The Squire lodge outside Grand Canyon National Park and the Tenaya Lodge that’s connected to Yosemite National Park in California.

Susan Buxton, director of the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, was also vetted by the Trump administration last year but eventually bowed out of consideration.
