Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Friday defended his recent decisions to zero out government funding for major projects across the country — a topic that’s led to intense scrutiny from lawmakers of both parties.
Speaking virtually at Sen. John Curtis’ (R-Utah) Conservative Climate Summit at the University of Utah, Wright addressed his decision to cancel contracts for various projects.
He has also previously indicated more cuts are coming following a monthslong review, prompting panic among some lawmakers after a termination list began making the rounds.
Wright said the department wanted to “stimulate innovation and development,” but that the criterion for funding was about whether the venture is likely to succeed.
