Wright has ‘no worries’ about oil investment in Venezuela

The Energy secretary said he’s been “inundated with outreach” from interested companies.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright says he won’t need to woo oil companies to invest in Venezuela.

There’s “no encouragement necessary,” Wright told The Wall Street Journal in an interview published Thursday when the Energy secretary was asked about his plans to encourage U.S. oil and gas firms to invest in the South American nation.

“I have been inundated with outreach from companies,” Wright said during the interview in Davos, Switzerland, where politicians and business leaders from around the globe gathered this week for the World Economic Forum.

That interest in Venezuela has come from “tons of companies I knew, tons of companies I don’t know, tons of American companies,” Wright said. “There’s drilling companies in Colombia, they’re like, ‘We can move rigs over right away.’ … Everybody’s saying, ‘How can we get in to assess the opportunities?’”
