EPA terminated nearly 400 members of its own staff on Valentine’s Day. Now, the agency wants to kiss and make up.
Some EPA employees on probationary status who were pushed out last week have now been told by the agency their removals have been pulled back, according to emails viewed by POLITICO’s E&E News. The reprieve is another whiplash moment for civil servants who have seen mass firings rock agency after agency under orders from the Trump administration.
“This is to provide notification that the Agency is rescinding your termination,” said the message, which was sent Wednesday. “You are not being removed from EPA or federal civil service at this time.”
The email then advised recalled employees that their supervisor will “restore” agency equipment to them, such as their EPA badge and laptop. It also told employees about EPA’s Employee Assistance Program, which provides confidential counseling and referral services.
