President-elect Donald Trump wants to slash EPA’s major regulations, but he’ll need a functioning agency to do so, officials from his last administration say.
Speculation is rampant that the incoming Trump administration will zero out EPA programs, force out career staff and even relocate the agency’s headquarters outside of Washington. Such moves would fit in with Trump’s campaign pledge to dismantle the federal bureaucracy.
But Trump also promised to pull back signature Biden administration rules, including power plant standards as well as auto emissions limits.
Six former Trump EPA appointees, granted anonymity to speak freely about the transition process, told POLITICO’s E&E News the next administration will need agency employees to help implement the president-elect’s push to deregulate.
