California high-speed rail officials have cleared CEO Ian Choudri to return from leave after completing a review of his February arrest related to an alleged domestic violence incident, High-Speed Rail Authority Board Chair Tom Richards said Wednesday.
What happened: Richards announced after a lengthy closed session during the authority’s monthly meeting that the board is asking Choudri to return to work on Thursday, two weeks after he took a voluntary leave of absence.
Richards did not offer additional details on the internal review, which was conducted by the authority and the California State Transportation Agency.
Why it matters: The endorsement from the board comes as Republican lawmakers and at least one Democratic gubernatorial candidate, state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, have called on Choudri to resign.
