Capito: No ‘red flags’ in NRC chair renomination bid

Senate Environment and Public Works ranking member Shelley Moore Capito appears to be leaning toward supporting another term for the leader of the nation’s top nuclear regulator.

Still, she acknowledged she wasn’t “100 percent decided” on her vote as of Thursday.

The West Virginia Republican’s blessing would likely guarantee a smooth confirmation process for Christopher Hanson. The current Nuclear Regulatory Commission chair’s term expires June 30.

“There are a few outstanding questions, but I thought his testimony was good,” said Capito. “I don’t see any big red flags.”
