The House Natural Resources Committee will mark up legislation this week that would speed the rebuilding of areas of the Grand Canyon damaged by last year’s Dragon Bravo wildfire, as well as tackle a host of other bills.

The agenda includes Arizona Republican Rep. Eli Crane’s H.R. 5729, the “North Rim Restoration Act,” which aims to speed repairs to infrastructure and natural resources along the North Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park that were destroyed last summer when a lightning strike triggered a 145,000-acre blaze.

The bill would allow the Interior Department and National Park Service to use existing emergency authorities to quickly hire the contractors for various restoration projects.
