A House Science, Space and Technology subcommittee will hold a hearing Wednesday to discuss advanced weather forecasting technologies in the wake of the deadly Texas floods.
The Environment Subcommittee was originally planning to hold the hearing last week before the House changed its schedule. Severe weather in recent days has added urgency to the session.
Lawmakers will hear from weather technology executives and other experts. The Texas state climatologist is also among the expected witnesses.
The need to improve forecasting has been an area of bipartisan concern. Former Science Chair Frank Lucas (R-Okla.) and current ranking member Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) are sponsoring the “Weather Act Reauthorization.”
