The House Foreign Affairs Committee will vote on legislation this week to bolster U.S. nuclear energy leadership in Europe.
H.R. 2504, the “U.S.-European Nuclear Energy Cooperation Act,” from Rep. Bill Keating (D-Mass.), ranking member of the Europe Subcommittee, would require the State Department to strengthen collaboration on nuclear energy to challenge Russian influence.
Last year’s version of the National Defense Authorization Act included a proposal from Senate Foreign Relations Chair Jim Risch (R-Idaho) that also sought to promote U.S. nuclear energy leadership and collaboration.
Separately, the House Foreign Affairs Committee will vote on H.R. 7674, the “Venezuela Democratic Transition Strategy Act,” from Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.), which would require State to submit a plan for Venezuela’s transition to democracy.
