A House Natural Resources panel will consider a slate of bills Tuesday that would reform the permitting process for geothermal projects.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee will discuss nine bills, most of which have bipartisan support. The bills tackle various aspects of the geothermal permitting process with an aim to speed up infrastructure deployment.
“Geothermal has the potential to be an energy giant for America,” Rep. Russ Fulcher (R-Idaho) said in a statement.
Fulcher is the author of H.R. 1687, the “Committing Leases for Energy Access Now (CLEAN) Act,” to require yearly lease sales on federal land for geothermal energy projects. The measure passed the House in the 118th Congress on a bipartisan basis.
