New York and New Jersey’s attorneys general filed a second lawsuit Tuesday seeking to force President Donald Trump to release his hold on money for the nation’s largest public works project.
New York’s Letitia James and New Jersey’s Jennifer Davenport accused the Trump administration of making an unlawful, politically motivated decision to withhold federal dollars set aside for the Hudson River train tunnels, citing the president’s own words to make their argument.
The lawsuit is the second filed this week. On Monday, the bi-state Gateway Development Commission accused the federal Department of Transportation of illegally withholding money for the decadelong, $16 billion project to supplement aging tubes beneath the river.
The attorneys general’s lawsuit was filed in the Southern District of New York. The bi-state agency’s case was filed in the Court of Federal Claims and assigned Tuesday to a Trump-nominated judge.
