The Senate will take a final vote on Wednesday to confirm natural resources attorney Aaron Peterson to become an Alaska federal judge.

Lawmakers voted 55-39 on Tuesday to wind down debate on Peterson, with Democrats Jean Shaheen of New Hampshire, Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island and Dick Durbin of Illinois joining all Republicans present in supporting the nominee.

Peterson — an Air Force veteran — has been an assistant attorney general in the Natural Resources Section of the Alaska Department of Law’s Civil Division. He was previously fish and wildlife prosecutor in the department’s Office of Special Prosecutions.
