Senate confirms natural resources attorney for Alaska federal court

The Senate has voted to install a new judge on a court that frequently decides environment and energy cases.

Lawmakers voted 58-39 on Wednesday to confirm Aaron Peterson to the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska, with several of the chamber’s Democrats supporting the Trump nominee.

Peterson has been an assistant attorney general in the Natural Resources Section of the Alaska Department of Law’s Civil Division since 2019. Prior to that, he was a statewide fish and wildlife crimes prosecutor.

He is an Air Force veteran and a graduate of the University of Alaska, Anchorage, and Gonzaga University School of Law.
