The Senate is planning to confirm Russell Vought to lead the White House Office of Management and Budget by the end of Thursday.
Vought will lead the Trump administration’s work to reduce government spending and regulations, and has defended the president’s desire to withhold funding appropriated by Congress. That’s why Democrats have worked to delay his confirmation as much as possible.
“He is far and away the most dangerous to the American people,” said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) about Vought in comparison to other nominees. “He is the most important piece of the puzzle in Donald Trump’s second term.”
The Senate took a second procedural vote on Vought on Wednesday. Leaders then kept the chamber open through the night to ensure a vote by Thursday.
