Indiana’s energy secretary said local bans on wind and solar projects are undermining the state’s business climate and President Donald Trump’s artificial intelligence agenda.
Energy and Natural Resources Secretary Suzanne Jaworowski, a former Trump administration official who’s now serving under Republican Gov. Mike Braun, said the lack of statewide siting standards for renewable energy has put too much political power in the hands of county officials, who are curtailing clean energy.
“These local moratoriums are setting our energy policy,” Jaworowski said Tuesday at the Indiana Fiscal Policy Institute’s annual luncheon, according to the Indiana Capital Chronicle. “And not only that, it’s creating a reputation … where industry doesn’t want to come.”
Seventy-two of Indiana’s 92 counties have some kind of restriction on renewable energy development, officials say.
