The Supreme Court has permitted the Trump administration to participate in a hearing next month over Exxon Mobil’s power to recover its Cuban assets seized by Fidel Castro’s government.

On Monday, the justices said in an order that the Justice Department could share oral argument time with the oil major during arguments Feb. 23 in Exxon v. Corporación Cimex.

The solicitor general had requested 10 minutes of argument time to make the case that federal law does not shield Cuban state-owned holding company Corporación Cimex from litigation.

The Trump administration’s argument supports Exxon’s claims that it should be able to sue for compensation for the $70 million (in 1960 dollars) of oil and gas assets that were seized after the Cuban Revolution in 1959.
