The president posted on social media that duties he’s promised on medium- and heavy-duty trucks will kick in on Nov. 1.

President Donald Trump said Monday that 25 percent tariffs on medium- and heavy-duty trucks will take effect on Nov. 1, a month after initially promised.

“Beginning November 1st, 2025, all Medium and Heavy Duty Trucks coming into the United States from other Countries will be Tariffed at the Rate of 25%. Thank you for your attention to this matter!,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, without providing further details.

The president previously said the duties would go into effect on Oct. 1, writing in a Sept. 25 Truth Social post that, “In order to protect our Great Heavy Truck Manufacturers from unfair outside competition, I will be imposing, as of October 1st, 2025, a 25% Tariff on all ‘Heavy (Big!) Trucks’ made in other parts of the World.”

The United States imports most of its large trucks from Mexico, with Canada serving as the second-largest source. Both countries have received exemptions from other Trump tariffs for goods that meet standards set by the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, which the president negotiated in his first term.
