President Donald Trump suggested Thursday that he’s eager to use the shutdown to make cuts to “the many Democrat Agencies” as his team continues to call for widespread federal layoffs during the government shutdown.

Trump planned to huddle Thursday with his White House budget director to discuss workforce cuts, the president posted on social media Thursday morning. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday said layoffs of federal employees were “imminent.”

“I have a meeting today with Russ Vought, he of PROJECT 2025 Fame, to determine which of the many Democrat Agencies, most of which are a political SCAM, he recommends to be cut, and whether or not those cuts will be temporary or permanent,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Thursday.
