The Trump administration said it’s delaying $2.1 billion funding for transit projects in Chicago, and blaming it on congressional Democrats and the government shutdown.
Russ Vought, who leads the White House Office of Management and Budget, announced the move Friday on X, and the Transportation Department followed up with a statement.
DOT was reviewing Chicago’s Red Line extension and modernization on the Red and Purple lines to make sure they comply with the department’s new regulation that prevents minority contracting preferences, the statement said.
But the department staff doing the review have been furloughed because of the shutdown.
