President Donald Trump emphasized his loathing of windmills in an White House meeting Tuesday with Irish leader Micheál Martin.

Trump repeated his frequent criticism of European countries’ reliance on wind energy, suggesting that windmills aren’t worth the investment and have destroyed views in Scotland.

“I’m proudly telling you that we’re going to try and have no windmills built in the United States,” Trump said. “They’re very bad environmentally. They kill the birds, they’re unsightly, they make a lot of noise. And for some reason, the environmentalists love windmills.”

Trump regularly makes his anti-wind views known. The president’s animosity toward wind goes back to before his 2016 presidential campaign, when he fought against offshore wind turbines near his golf resort in Scotland.

He has regularly warned that wind farms destroy views, kill birds and don’t provide reliable energy, and his administration has worked to halt wind projects.
