Senate Environment and Public Works ranking member Sheldon Whitehouse blocked the quick confirmation of two nominees Thursday.

EPW Chair Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) moved for the chamber to approve former aide Jessica Kramer to lead EPA’s water office and Sean McMaster to head the Federal Highway Administration. Whitehouse rose to object.

Capito, like other Republicans, complained about Democrats objecting to approving any of President Donald Trump’s civilian nominees by voice vote or unanimous consent.
